The Gladedale Group conforms to high standards of social and environmental sustainability in the operation of its developments, offices and manufacturing outlets. We aim to have a positive impact on the lives of our employees, customers and others living in the communities in which we work.
Prevention of pollution, along with a reduction in our use of natural resources, and a mindful approach to the environmental impact of our business activities, are important Group concerns.
We aim to get the best out of materials by using them efficiently and by recycling waste where possible. We work closely with Reconomy and Entec, our sustainability partners, and are committed to the WRAP initiative. We actively manage and monitor the waste generated at our sites, recycling 82% of waste, against our current target of 80%. In targeting reductions in generated waste, and in order to increase levels of recycling, we play an active part in halving the waste we send to landfill.
We at Gladedale also monitor the water and energy we use, and challenge ourselves to reduce expenditure on these valuable resources.
The Group promotes safe and secure working and has not previously been prosecuted in either occupational health and safety or environmental matters.
Gladedale's Accident Incident Rate, which is a measure of accidents on-site, is significantly below that published for its industry sector. Our health and safety performance is monitored and audited by our insurers who endorse our good track record.
We inspect and audit our own performance in terms of occupational health and safety, security and the environment, seting targets to reduce the risks identified during such inspections. We can demonstrate that ‘the level of risk’ has fallen continually over the past five years, as a result of our pro-active attitude towards this aspect of our operations.
Staysafe 3 is the third of our continuing occupational health and safety initiatives, which is positively supported by our insurance brokers and insurers. ‘Qualifying Safety at Work – Safety is No Accident’ remains our copyrighted safety message to everyone associated with our Group.
We have been successful in the inaugural NHBC Safety Awards, achieving Highly Commended status through Andy Wilson at our Wakefield, South Yorkshire development, and Regional Winner via Scott Little in Bearsden, Glasgow. Our Gladedale Lincoln business achieved Gold Award status in the Business category. And Bett Homes won the 2010 Homes for Scotland Health and Safety Award, with judges commenting on the strong sense of leadership, along with our sound, innovative approach to health and safety management.
In the quality of our workmanship and customer care, our aim is to get it right first time. This is reflected in our recent successes in the 2010 NHBC Pride in the Job Awards, and the continued success of the Gladedale Quartermile development in Edinburgh (see the Awards section for details).
Gladedale subscribes to responsible building via the Considerate Constructors Scheme, with a self-imposed target of scoring an average of 31 points per inspection visit.
We aim to positively manage biodiversity in and around our developments, and to make a positive difference wherever possible.
