Designing for Sustainability

Good design contributes to the quality of life of individuals and communities.

Our ‘Space, Specification and Quality’ concept is based on a set of fundamental principles that includes a commitment to enhancing the quality of life of our customers/clients and their neighbours, as well as to protecting the environment as a whole.

To achieve these objectives, we are committed to an ongoing review of our thinking, technology and processes, with the aim of continually improving our performance over the long-term.

In the acquisition of land for building, including the regeneration of Brownfield sites, we give due consideration to environmental and social issues.

We engage in complete lifecycle thinking in our approach to new designs, products, homes and communities, so that the homes and commercial premises we develop are sensitive to current and expected future environmental requirements.

The Gladedale Group evaluates the energy and materials needed in constructing new communities and in meeting the long-term needs of occupiers. Ethical and efficient procurement is a key feature of our design concept.

To improve safety, security and sustainability, we continually review our construction methods and, where possible, utilise off-site works and pre-fabrication to reduce waste and improve quality.

A key element of the Gladedale approach focuses on reducing waste and maximising the recycling of any waste that is generated. This focus starts at design conception and permeates through the specification and construction process, providing our customers and clients with the opportunity to both recycle and enhance the sustainability of their lifestyle by reducing water and energy usage.

Gladedale currently designs and constructs homes to Sustainable Code Level 3 and is engaged in the research, development and design of homes to Sustainable Code Levels 4 to 6.
