At the Gladedale Group, we recognise the important effect our activities as a major housebuilder can have on the environment. In this regard, it is essential that we work with our suppliers, contractors and designers to enhance the sustainability of our business, whilst also providing the Group with solutions that are cost-effective and that stand the test of time.
Principles
We use the following guiding principles to promote sustainability within our procurement policy:
- Management of our consumption of goods and services, in order to limit usage.
- Reduction of the amount of waste created through our procurement process.
- Minimising the consumption of non-renewable resources.
- Specification of materials that incorporate recycled content.
- Sourcing materials from sustainable, controlled and managed sources.
- The reduction of pollution resulting from the transportation of goods and services.
- Supporting local businesses and their communities.
- Active management of the workforce to improve health and safety on site, along with training and welfare issues.
- Value and effectiveness when considering quality, cost and service.
Delivery
- We will deliver on our commitment to sustainable procurement by adhering to the following:
- We will communicate our sustainable procurement policy to all our employees, suppliers, contractors, designers and other relevant stakeholders.
- When selecting suppliers, we will assess the sustainability of their products and services through our pre-qualification procedure.
- We will endeavour to source materials that use recycled packaging materials.
- We will engage with our supply chain partners to halve the amount of construction, demolition and excavation waste going to landfill by 2010, meeting minimum standards in our waste management, material use and recycled content.
- We will work in partnership with our supply chain to investigate and introduce processes and products with lower environmental impacts.
- We will seek to promote opportunities for local and smaller suppliers to become part of our activities.
- We will measure and report our progress on sustainable procurement, in order to enable benchmarking and continuous improvement.
- We will provide suitable training and ensure that all of our staff engaged in the supply chain, implement this policy.
Responsibility
- The Procurement Director is responsible for ensuring that this policy is adhered to. 
All staff who are engaged in the supply chain are responsible for complying with this policy.
- This sustainable procurement policy statement is one of a series of policy statements of commitment, and should be read in conjunction with our other policy statements.
- The policy will be reviewed periodically, in order to incorporate changes and remain positive and effective.
