MARRIOTT CHOOSES QUARTERMILE FOR UK’S FIRST RESIDENCE INN

Gladedale Capital has announced that one of the world’s leading hotel operators, Marriott International, has chosen its prestigious £450 million Quartermile development, in Edinburgh city centre, as the location for the UK’s first Residence Inn by Marriott, which will also be among the first to be opened in Europe. The 107 bed apartment hotel is due to open in late summer.
Gladedale Capital managing director, Paul Curran said: “We are delighted that a large international corporation like Marriott Hotels has chosen Quartermile as the location for its first Residence Inn in the UK. The fact that Marriott has chosen Quartermile is a great testament to the quality of our product and our fantastic location in Edinburgh City Centre. It is also due to the hard work and dedication of the Gladedale Capital team, who have been instrumental in enabling the deal to go ahead.”

The Marriott announcement is the latest success story for Quartermile, not only as a place to live, but also as a location for business and leisure, following closely on from the announcement that work has now started on the next phase of 300 new apartments at New Meadows on the southern edge of the development.
Residence Inns by Marriott are designed to provide travellers with everything they need on longer stays. Over 600 Residence Inns worldwide feature, spacious suites with separate living and sleeping areas, fully equipped kitchens, a free grocery delivery service, Wi-Fi and in-room internet access, inviting outdoor spaces and a complimentary hot breakfast.
Paul concluded: “The Edinburgh hotel market is the top performing in the UK, outside London, with current rates of occupancy upwards of 80%, so it is the perfect platform for Marriott to launch its Residence Inn brand in the UK.”
The award winning Quartermile development, master-planned by Foster + Partners, is located in Edinburgh city centre a quarter mile from Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile. Edinburgh's business districts, universities, courts and leisure facilities are all close by as are Haymarket and Waverley railway stations.
